Spring has SPRUNG and it is time to clean out our bodies. Whether you are just coming out of cancer treatments and you are looking for a safe way to detox your liver, blood, etc. OR you are just really craving some detoxification to reboot your body and immune system, look no further. I have the answers here!

First things first, I am not against cleanses/juicing, etc. There are different ways to detox your body out there and I encourage you to explore them all and see what works best for YOU. In my personal experience, I love to continuously add “good for you” foods to my diet to enhance continuous detoxification which allows me to reap ALL the benefits of food; by adding specific detoxification foods to your diet, it allows your body to absorb all the nutrients food has to offer. For example, if you are incorporating more apples into your diet- you are still getting antioxidants, phytochemicals, fiber, and all the minerals that are contained in that fruit as well as the detoxification benefits by eating the ENTIRE fruit. This allows your body to healthily digest and detox and not feel like you are on a strict plan. Make sense?

Ok, enough talk, here are my fave 5 foods that detox the body:

ALMONDS

Almonds are the BEST whole food source of Vitamin E, which also could help prevent cancer. They contain potassium, copper, iron, zinc, folic acid, manganese, and riboflavin (WOW). They also have the highest amount of calcium than any other nut.

Detox Benefits: Stabilizes blood sugar, removes impurities in our bowels, they have healthy fats, fiber, and protein. *Fiber is key in detoxification.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

ACV can help balance the PH levels within your body which allows the body to function at its best. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels- which means less blood sugar spikes- which is key to keeping inflammation and chronic illness away.

Detox Benefits: Removes toxins from the body, provides natural probiotics, improves digestion, and provides enzymes to the body. ACV can help with cleaning the lymphatic system and in improving gut issues. Need I say more?

*Try adding a tablespoon to some hot water first thing in the morning, and let nature take its course!

GINGER

I mean everyone knows ginger is a huge super food, but it specifically helps with detoxification because it helps support the liver to function optimally. The liver is key for detoxification, so this is incredibly important.

Detox Benefits: Flushes out toxins within the body, flushes the lymphatic system, cleans the blood, improves digestion, helps beat bloat (and gas), immunity booster, and boost the metabolism.

BLUEBERRIES

Honestly, this fruit is one of the healthiest on the planet. It has anti-viral properties which help prevent infections, super high in antioxidants, high in fiber, and they are high in Vitamin C.

Detox Benefits: They decrease inflammation, block toxins, act as an antibiotic by blocking bacteria in the urinary tract, and protects our cells.

BEETS

Beets are probably the most popular detoxifying veg out there. They contain magnesium, iron, Vitamin C (immune booster), and contain a ton of wonderful phytochemicals.

Detox Benefits: They balance the PH in our bodies (hello detox), clean our blood, activate liver enzymes, fight infections, and specifically support liver detoxification. They also reduce inflammation and can reduce oxidative stress.

Honestly, you cannot go wrong with incorporating these foods into your diets. They are designed to make our bodies healthier, prevent disease, and encourage detoxification. By trying new foods and adding them to your day, you are increasing the entire functionality of your body and brain.

As promised, 2 additional foods that are FAB for detox:

CABBAGE:  Helps the liver detoxify, contains plant compounds that help fight against toxins, and it is high in antioxidants.

WATER/HYDRATION: Proper hydration is key in detoxifying because it allows the body to flush toxins out, improve digestion, reduce bloat, and stabilize the body. Make sure you are drinking enough water every day!
